Antwerp, the most populous city in Belgium, home to a vibrant fashion scene and a city boasting tons of historical and cultural heritage. From inspiring historical and contemporary art to impressive medieval and postmodern architecture, there are tons of things to explore and love about the city of Antwerp.
The travel guide Lonely Planet picked Antwerp as one of its Top 10 Best Cities in 2018. That is not surprising, as the city is not only bursting with life but is also increasingly multicultural.
Nearly every local understands and speaks English, as well as (some) French. Many speak a vast array of other languages as well, such as Spanish, Italian and Arabic for example, as there are people from 170 different ethnic backgrounds living and working in the city.
Families with children won’t be facing any concerns either. Antwerp is home to many high-quality state and private educational institutions, as well as international schools. If all that wasn’t enough, the city is located in close proximity to some other notable European cities, such as Paris and Amsterdam.
You won’t ever find yourself bored either. Shopping venues, the Antwerp Zoo (one of the oldest in the world!), the Opera House, various museums, a vibrant nightlife and tons of cafés & restaurants to discover in the heart of the historic city center… it’s safe to say there are countless leisure activities to partake in.
