Unifly Celebrates 10 Years of Shaping the Future of Drone Traffic Management

From pioneering UTM solutions to supporting safe drone integration worldwide, Unifly celebrates a decade of innovation, global partnerships, and growth.

16 October 2025 – Antwerp, Belgium – Unifly, a pioneer in Unmanned Aircraft Systems Traffic Management (UTM), proudly marks its 10th anniversary, celebrating a decade of transforming drone integration and shaping the future of autonomous aviation. Since its founding in 2015 as a spin-off from VITO, the Flemish Institute for Technological Research, Unifly has grown from a small Belgian start-up into a globally recognised UTM provider, deployed across more than ten countries.

A Decade of Innovation and Impact

Over the past ten years, Unifly has transformed how drones are safely integrated into shared airspace. From NAV CANADA to the Port of Antwerp-Bruges, its UTM solutions enable safer and scalable drone integration for aviation authorities, governments, cities, and enterprises worldwide.

“When we founded Unifly a decade ago, our mission was simple: make drone integration safe and scalable. Today, as we celebrate 10 years, I’m proud of how we’ve grown from a Belgian start-up into a global partner shaping the future of aviation. We remain committed to ensuring that drones become a trusted and valuable part of everyday life.”

Strategic milestones, such as the May 2025 acquisition of EuroUSC Italia, strengthened the group with leading expertise in drone regulations, aviation safety, and Specific Operations Risk Assessment (SORA).

Over the past decade, Unifly has evolved from a pioneering Belgian start-up, into a trusted global partner for aviation authorities and the drone industry. The company now employs around 65 people and operates from Belgium, Italy, Romania, and the United States, and extends its presence to Asia and the Middle East through Terra Drone.

Its track record includes:

  • More than 10 commercial UTM deployments worldwide
  • Over 1.5 million authorisation requests processed, and more than 5 million drone flights validated
  • Over 500,000+ registered drone operators
  • Participation in over 50+ R&D projects and demonstrators

Ambitions for the Next Decade

Looking ahead, Unifly is taking the next step in building a complete end-to-end offering for safe and scalable drone operations. With the strategic acquisition of Unifly Consulting, the company adds strong regulatory and safety expertise to its proven UTM technology, marking the first step towards a fully integrated offering that supports authorities and operators from regulation to daily operations.

As the drone industry moves beyond the initial hype and enters a phase of true operational growth and autonomy, Unifly is expanding through new partnerships and collaborations. Together, these efforts aim to make drone operations a reliable part of everyday life.

At the same time, the rise in unauthorised drone activity increases the need for reliable airspace management. Unifly’s platform helps authorities see which drones are flying according to the rules, distinguishing legitimate flights from potential threats. By connecting UTM and Counter-UAS systems, Unifly contributes to keeping airspace around airports, ports, and other sensitive areas secure and controlled.

“Our advancements, from SAFIR to more than 50 R&D projects, show how innovation paired with commercial deployments drives industry transformation.”

“Being part of the Unifly group makes us uniquely positioned to grow and support the safe expansion of the drone market."
